Dad didn't take us to any of those fancy, expensive restaurants that night. As a matter of fact, he told Gaetania and me he was so over the snobbish cuisine, and that he wanted something more down to earth,  as in real dishes and not 'two crossed carrots over one third a steak'. Nothing for real men, he called it. Or real women, he added as an afterthought when I rolled my eyes at him.

Instead we ended up at a crossover place which used to be trendy, and now, when the celebs had moved on, it had become quite a bit more bohemian, jolly and home-like. The muzak had been traded in for classic pop from the 00ies, the personnel were less stuck-up
